Charlie Kaufman has already lined up an impressive cast of actors for his wild new movie Frank or Francis — Steve Carell, Jack Black, Nicolas Cage, and Kevin Kline have long been attached to the project — and now he's added two name actresses, both of whom did some of their career-best work with a Kaufman script. Vulture hears that Kate Winslet and Catherine Keener have come aboard Frank or Francis; the former was nominated for an Oscar for the Kaufman-penned Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, while the latter got her first Oscar nod thanks to Kaufman's script for Being John Malkovich.

Both of those screenplays were directed by other people, but Kaufman will be helming his own work for Frank or Francis, a very meta musical comedy about a director (Carell) who becomes obsessed with the message board commenter (Black) disparaging his movies on a Hollywood website. And though Kaufman's script is positively scathing when it comes to the Academy Awards (Cage plays a washed-up actor who serves as the emcee of the event), we should note that with the new additions to his cast, he's now got an ensemble that includes three Oscar winners and can boast a bounty of eleven total nominations. Not bad!


Being a fan of Kate Winslet, Catherine Keener, Nicholas Cage and Charlie Kaufman (Steve Carell, Kevin Kline and Jack Black too), I guess by default, I'm going to be pretty excited about this. I imagine some others will as well.

Unless the *musical* element to this, ruins it. For some reason, I wonder if even Charlie Kaufman could ruin something with that factor. Or maybe it could be OVER-cast? But my belief/faith in Kaufman still holds my optimism about this movie right now.

Sundance Film Festival 2012: Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap

This looks interesting, a documentary by Ice-T about the history of Rap. He interviewed Nas among others. I hope it does/did well this year and gets bought.

Sundance Film Festival: 2 Early Titles

I just saw these in an email. I mean to go over a lot of the festival and the movies that are worth looking for, likely after or at least more so when I have time. But just for now, these 2 are worth mentioning.

Time Travel movie of sorts about 3 people, and an ad that was placed in a magazine in 1997. The premise sounds potentially interesting, although if it's like Primer I probably will losr interest fast.

"Hello I Must Be Going"



Todd Luiso directed, Melanie Lynskey stars; a movie about a woman recently divorced who finds a bond with a younger man in an unlikely place as her parents home.

The Hobbit (2012)

The trailer is all over the web over the last 48 hours. The cast I didn't see, but to note, it's nice to see people like Aidan Turner (the BBC's Being Human) and Lee Pace (Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies), and Evangeline Lilly (Lost)

And of course Martin Freeman, Hugo Weaving, Sir Ian McKellen, Cate Blanchett, Andy Sirkis and Richard Armitage who I had known all about.

John Rhys-Davies? maybe his character is was too young during The Hobbit period vs LOTR's.
I do wonder what this movie might have been like had Guillermo Del Toro been able to direct it (as originally planned).

2012 Golden Globes

2012 Golden Globes

a few names nice to see like Johnny Galecki for The Big Bang Theory, but as it always happens, far too many omissions like Psych. I have yet to see a number of the movies nominated, namely Moneyball. But I'm starting to wonder if this year could end up being an even worse year for movies than last year.


Ricky Gervais is hosting again, which should be worth watching these alone for.

I'll try and find the time soon around or after the 2011 Album Index is done to dissect these as I like to do.
